This 1994 Alfa Romeo 164 LS (chassis ZARED33E9R6289446) is a 152k-mile driver owned by a series of meticulous fanatics, including the Northern California Alfa Romeo Association president. This particular car is quite well known in the community and has all of the most desirable options/upgrades for a 164. The Recaro interior and Q4 wheels are extremely rare and go for significant money. The seller says the car is the nicest freeway tourer he has ever owned, and that it looks, sounds, and feels great out on the open road. He has owned the car for the last year and a half and the car has never let him down, and he would not hesitate to drive it to back and forth to SoCal again (he has several times). He has put 20k miles on in the last year and spent close to $4k in upgrades and maintenance. It is now available in San Jose, California for $8500.
The exterior features original metallic blue paint with subtle Euro upgrades including projector HID headlightsand and a 164 “Super” trunk badge. The fully restored set of 16″ 164Q4 wheels (5) were imported from South America. These wheels were never offered in the US but look fantastic on these cars. B&G lowering springs are new, and along and Koni yellow adjustable dampeners (fronts are new), have the car sitting very nicely. The seller says that the Konis are a little harsh on broken pavement, but that NOS struts and springs with 25K original miles are included with the sale if new owner wants to put the car back to stock. A Remus sport muffler looks great and makes the engine note subtle and not intrusive. The seller does note rock chips on the front bumper and front of the hood that are appropriate for the mileage. He believes all paint to be factory applied apart from a perfectly matched re-spray of the rear bumper.
The car features the full Recaro front and rear seats with 8-way adjustable fronts. All the seats are heated, and the important “Goats” permanent climate control LCD display fix has been implemented. The climate control unit was recently replaced with low-mile unit and works properly. The A/C was recently recharged but the seller says there is a slow leak. The seller personally spent hours tuning and sorting out the wiring of the sound system. He says it sounds great now, and is totally stealth apart from the trunk amp, and includes the following:
- Mid-grade Sony head unit with Aux input
- High-end vintage Sony 5 channel amplifier
- Mid-grade Polk Audio front drivers
- Alfa OEM in-door tweeters (very clear) modified with resisters for better balance
- Rear 6×9 replaced with Infinity Reference speakers by previous owner
The heart of the car is the 3.0L quad-cam 24V V6 engine. This one features 3.2 GTA intake camshafts and 45mm GTA/Q intake runners. The seller says that the realistic HP estimate is 240+ at the flywheel, and it really comes on strong up to the 7000 red-line. Maintenance is critical on these, and a complete timing belt job was done, along with a new clutch and resurfaced flywheel at 142K miles. The previous owner replaced main and rod bearings and main seals @100K as preventative maintenance. The oil and filter were last changed 100 miles ago and complete receipts and records go back to 1996. This is how you want to buy a 164.
The seller says that everything works except for the motor controlling forward and backwards motion on the driver seat. The seller has a method to adjust it to a fixed position for the new owner, but it will need a motor for the switch to function properly. All other adjustments on both seats work correctly.
