This 1985 Audi 4000S Quattro (chassis WAUFB0858FA069183) is offered by a German car specialist shop owner who has given it meticulous care since 2007, both for a fastidious customer and more recently for his young son. It’s said to be in fantastic, near-new shape throughout, both mechanically and cosmetically. It’s currently 100% sorted, completely rust-free, and ready to go for the new owner. Panels look super straight with good fit, and for the most part trim is excellent. Trigger style door handles used on eighties VAG products are prone to getting picky with age, and these have been replaced recently–a good indicator of the kind of attention to detail lavished on the car as a whole. Aging, purplish tint isn’t ideal, but has likely contributed to the interior surviving as well as it has–at least it’s not bubbling. Paint has a few chips and marks here and there, most notably near the center of the front air dam, but looks great overall.
The interior is said to be nearly indistinguishable from new, and pictures seem to back this claim. The driver’s side outer seat bolster is very slightly worn and misshapen from repeated entry/exit, but otherwise the cool striped brown upholstery seems excellent. A clean, uncracked dash houses what look like perfect switchgear and fully functional lighting. Everything is said towork, including the electric sunroof. A newer Alpine deck with Pandora and aux inputs was installed along with Rockford Fosgate speakers, and it’s said to sound very nice.
Recent work includes a new timing belt and tensioner, spark plugs, distributor rotor and cap, drive belt, water pump, brake master cylinder, proportioning valve, expansion tank, cam seal, battery, and a complete fluid change. Tires are said to have 85% tread remaining, the clutch engages low to the floor with good feel, and it’s said to run perfectly–just as you’d expect from a specialist owned car. The engine bay looks super tidy, and even the brittle cowling plastic looks well preserved.
We’re big fans of eighties Audi, and the 4000 is one of our favorites. This car is likely one of the best left anywhere, and deserves tolive in a garage and receive a similar level of care under the new owner. If you’ve been looking for a good one, this could very well be it.
