Almost Finished: 1965 Honda S600 Restoration

$
0
0

This 1965 Honda S600 (chassis AS2851005981) is offered as a nearly complete sounding restoration that the seller claims has been done to the highest standards. That said, mechanical details are lacking, the seller freely admitting that they don’t even change their own oil–odd for the owner of a car whose appeal is arguably largely due to its fascinating engineering. Find it here on eBay in Reno, Nevada with a $35k BIN.

1965 Honda S600

Though dusty and dirty in spots, its said to have perfect paint and bodywork handled by a local professional with extensive show car experience. Many NOS replacement parts including side mirrors are mentioned, while elsewhere chrome has all been re-plated and looks very good. Badging, lenses, brightwork and other trim look excellent as well, and both a new, uninstalled convertible top and red fiberglass hard top are included.

1965 Honda S600

The interior features several upmarket options from an SM600 donor car, among them cushier, removable headrest-equipped seats, radio, sun visors and more. Interestingly, the passenger visor houses the radio’s antenna and the AM unit itself has been professionally rebuilt. Gauges received similar attention, however remain unfitted as shown. OEM red rubber floor mats are also included, and though red leather upholstery looks good we’d have stuck with factory-correct vinyl.

1965 Honda S600

The twin cam, roller bearing crank, 606cc four is said to have been rebuilt by a previous owner, but was again been rebuilt by a local S-car expert as it wasn’t running correctly when purchased. Unfortunately, no further details are provided–a real concern as these engines are known to be difficult to recondition properly. Note also the incorrectly polished air filter housing.

1965 Honda S600

Sale includes several original manuals including a shop book, original tools, NOS key blanks and more. Hopefully this one gets put back together correctly and regularly visits its nearly 10k redline.

BaT Auction: Restored 1975 Land Rover Series III Lightweight FFR

$

0

This 1975 Land Rover Series III Lightweight FFR (Fitted For Radio) is an ex-British military truck located by the seller in Ireland last year. Since then it has been fully restored with work taking place on both sides of the Atlantic. Refurbishment started with complete disassembly followed by bulkhead and chassis repairs, fitment of a new wiring harness, all new paint, and extensive mechanical and cosmetic freshening. We very rarely see the lightweights having dollars spent on restoration… most are in rough shape. This one is now looking great, and the seller mentions a recent 600+ mile road trip during which the truck had no problems.

1975 Land Rover SIII Lightweight Rear

Lightweights were designed for helicopter transport, and though slightly narrower than normal bodied Land Rovers they actually tipped the scales a few pounds heavier, requiring many parts such as doors and top to be sent ahead separately. Though now completely rust-free, the truck did require quite a bit of metal work including repairs to the bulkhead, rear quarter chassis and more. All metal work was carried out by a professionals and the truck has since been fully resprayed in factory correct Bronze Green.

1975 Land Rover SIII Lightweight Interior

Inside, the truck has received new upholstery and all gauges, lights, and switches work as designed. Note also the new, factory style, FFR-specific canvas top and correctly functioning heat, blower motor, and wipers. Coolant temp and oil pressure gauges have been fitted as well.

1975 Land Rover SIII Lightweight Chassis

Disassembly included pressure washing, degreasing and sand blasting of all chassis and body components as well as the axles. Underneath, the truck has been sprayed with two part primer/black paint and remains quite clean thanks to somewhat limited use since completion. The axles and their internal components were found to be in good working order, and the rear was given new axle shafts and both were given the new fluids and grease required. Other jobs included fitment of all new OEM brake drums, cylinders, shoes, lines, and rebuilding of the main steering box and front knuckle swivel joints.

1975 Land Rover SIII Lightweight Engine

The truck’s standard 2.25L, 67 HP four was found to be in good running condition but has been fitted with a new head in order to allow use of unleaded gasoline. Other work included installation of a new distributor, carb, water pump, oil pump, gas tank, sending unit, fuel lines, and more. Additionally, both the starter and alternator have been rebuilt and the exhaust and all five 750 x 16 All Terrain tires are new.

The seller adds that all restoration receipts are available and that work used OEM or high quality Bearmach replacement parts wherever possible. Many spares and a matching 5 gallon jerry can are included.

One Family for 63 Years: 1950 Riley RMB

This 1950 Riley RMB four door saloon (chassis 60S5765) is said to have remained with the same family since 1952 when it was bought with 9k miles on the odometer. Later restored in stages, the car has sat dormant in storage for periods of time but is now being used again and sounds to be in very good cosmetic and mechanical order. Find it here on Craigslist in Middlebury, Vermont for $26,500. Special thanks to BaT reader speedforreal for this submission.

1950 Riley RMB 2-1/2 litre Saloon

Paint dates from the mid-70’s and is said to remain in good condition apart from a few small nicks and limited areas of crazing. These cars have a very low-slung, sporty appearance in person and are somewhat reminiscent of a Bugatti T57 head-on–check out the ad’s full gallery to see what we mean.

1950 Riley RMB 2-1/2 litre Saloon

Leather shows a definite but not unpleasant patina, the seller adding that it remains original. Note the likely period-add Bluemel Brooklands steering wheel with custom hub, good veneers and overall tidy appearance of the cabin.

1950 Riley RMB 2-1/2 litre Saloon

These cool old photos show the car during restoration which sounds to have been done in two parts during the early-to-mid 1970’s.

1950 Riley RMB 2-1/2 litre Saloon

This photo with a member of the longtime owning family is interesting in that it helps visualize the car’s known history as well as for the way it highlights how low and rakish it is relative to other, less sporting British saloons of the era.

1950 Riley RMB 2-1/2 litre Saloon

Though the rocker cover suggests a DOHC layout, these cars actually utilized twin cams mounted high on the block, just beneath intake and exhaust ports. A hemispherical combustion chamber design, in this twin SU carb RMB spec the 2.5 liter four should be good for about 90 HP.

1950 Riley RMB 2-1/2 litre Saloon

We think this one would make a fantastic entry for the next California Mille or similar vintage events.

BaT Auction: Grandpa’s 700k-Mile 1968 Mercedes Benz 200D

$
0
0

This 1968 Mercedes-Benz 200D was purchased new by the seller’s grandfather and has racked up an impressive 700k+ miles. He drove the car daily for 22 years and put on most of the miles driving long distances for business. In 1990 the car was passed on to the seller’s father, who drove it mostly on weekends before parking it in 2010. The seller acquired it last year, and has put about 600 miles on it. Even with that mileage, the car is described as a very nice driver with minimal rust that starts readily and drives well. Records past mid-1970 (at which point the car already had covered nearly 100k miles) are lacking, but the engine and transmission were rebuilt by 1985. Mercedes diesels are known for their longevity, but this one takes that to an impressive level, and is quite clean given the mileage.

1968 Mercedes 200D rear
The body looks straight, with only a couple of minor dings noted by the seller. A 1993 collision resulted in the hood, a front fender, front bumper and grille being replaced with original Mercedes parts and the car also was given a glass-out respray in its original color. The rear bumper was later “creased” in a mishap and could use rechroming as could some of the trim, though most of it is in good shape. The windshield and rear glass seals need replacing, as do the door seals. Surface rust in the floor and trunk pans due to the leaking seals has been removed/treated. The only other sign of rust noted is some paint flaking at the edges of the rear wheel wells.

1968 Mercedes 200D Int

The seller says the interior is original and in remarkable shape for its age. The blue MB-Tex vinyl upholstery is in good condition apart from two small tears in the rear seat. Driver and passenger seats are good with some sag in the driver’s seat. The steering wheel has some cracking and needs to be restored, but the dash and instrument cluster reportedly are good.

1968 Mercedes 200D Int2

The original Kuhlmeister underdash A/C is present, but not working (needs a new compressor) and a Retro Sound digital head unit has replaced the original radio but retains the vintage form factor. All lights and switches work, though the wipers are intermittent and the windshield washer is non-op.

1968 Mercedes 200D Engine

The 1988cc, 55-horsepower diesel 4-cylinder was rebuilt in the mid-1980s and is said to run well. The automatic transmission was rebuilt in 1979. The car reportedly cruises easily at 65-70 mph on the highway though acceleration is quite slow (29.3 seconds 0-60 mph).

1968 Mercedes 200D under

The underside looks reasonably dry though the seller notes that the engine and transmission  “ooze” some oil through their seals. The brakes reportedly work great — the rear brakes have been rebuilt since the seller acquired the car. The battery is new, but the original hold down is missing. Overall this looks like a solid W110 diesel fintail that could be used as a daily driver after a few repairs.

Most Original Left: 1965 Apollo 5000 GT

This 1965 Apollo 5000 GT (chassis 1039) is said to have remained with the same family since new and is also believed to be the most original example still in existence. One of about 90 of the Buick V8 cars built, this one’s further claimed to have just under 20k miles and remains in very good mechanical and cosmetic condition. It is the sixth example that we have featured here on BaT, and the first silver one. Find it here on Fantasy Junction in Emeryville, California for $150k.

1965 Apollo 5000 GT

Check out the black and yellow plates and original Apollo cars license plate frame–super-cool. A paint gauge is said to reveal that most of the car’s rear retains original finish. Inside, leather is said to remain all factory, and though hardened with age it remains free of significant cracking, splitting or other damage. Similarly, gauges, carpets and the original wooden steering wheel all look nice as well.

1965 Apollo 5000 GT

Underneath, it’s said to remain straight with no evidence of accident history or other problems. Easily one of the more attractive and compelling examples we’ve featured over the years, this one definitely seems to be worth a closer look if you’ve ever wanted to own one.

BaT Auction: Damaged 1987 Ferrari 328 GTS at No Reserve

$

0

This 1987 Ferrari 328 GTS is a driving 52k mile example that was damaged by the seller who has owned it for 10 years. It carries a rebuilt title following the insurance company’s decision to total the car, citing unavailable parts as a deciding factor. The seller took it upon himself to keep the car and source the parts necessary for repair including the door skin and rocker panel through Lyle Tanner and the European database, all of which are included in the sale and photographed below. The car’s history is documented from day one including a binder of service receipts dating to 1987. It was purchased new in Monterey, California in May 1987, and made its way to Washington state in 2000 where it still resides. The seller says the car drives perfectly and records show it has been serviced at Ferrari of Seattle. The new owner will need to complete the body repairs with the included parts and update maintenance with the belt service that is due.

1987 Ferrari 328 GTS-2

The seller purchased the car in 2005 and was driving in the rain shortly after when the back end came around in a 45 degree left hander at around 30 mph. The car impacted two landscape rocks on the side of the road, striking the passenger side. The back bumper was also damaged. The car is perfectly driveable as-is and Truline in Seattle confirmed it is aligned to factory spec. The seller still uses it often to keep systems healthy.

1987 Ferrari 328 GTS-4

A large 328 GTS spare parts package includes a passenger side rocker panel, passenger side door skin, floor pan (seller says this is not necessary and the original could be repaired), rear bumper, rear grill, low mileage used muffler from a Mondial 3.2, and exhaust hangers.

IMG_0753

We respect the seller for his straightforward description of the car’s condition and the accident. Rather than take the insurance payout and move on, he wanted to keep the car and source the replacement parts, and after a State Patrol inspection he obtained a rebuilt title from the State Washington.

IMG_0775

The seller says when he purchased the car it was in very good condition with a few paint chips and no record of body repair. He assumes all paint is original. The car is unmodified from stock and Argento silver over black leather is an attractive combo. The interior is clean with very good leather and hardly any wear on the driver’s seat bolster. A few known issues exist including weak front hood struts, disconnected radio, the radio antenna does not retract, and the hand brake light stays on.

1987 Ferrari 328 GTS-3

The car is routinely exercised at least once per month. It will need a standard service and new belts, but the car has never proven unreliable or had any irregular issues. Comprehensive service records are provided including many from Ferrari of Seattle and Cavallino Autoworks. The last belt service was on 3/24/2005 at 49,757 miles. The seller says that despite the damage the car is a pleasure to drive, emphasizing that transmission, clutch, brakes are all work excellently. Complete books, factory tools, and all records are included.

BaT Auction: 50 Years Owned 1962 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible

$

0

This 1962 Cadillac Series 62 convertible has been owned by the same family for 50 years. The car is described as a highly original survivor that looks remarkably clean with what is said to be 100k original miles on the clock. The seller provides over 100 detailed photos and says it has always been garage kept and covered – overall it appears to have been very well cared for. Newport Blue over blue interior has aged well, and the car is powered by a torquey 390 cubic inch V8 goo for 325 horsepower when new. This one has received standard maintenance over the past ten years and the seller says it is very nice to drive.

1962 Cadillac Convertible Rear
The seller says the car still wears its original Newport Blue paint. In the past 30 years, it has been used only for sunny Sunday joy rides and before that was used only for long family vacation trips. The ‘62 Caddys showed the influence of new GM styling chief Bill Mitchell. Essentially facelifted 1961s, they had a flashier, more “Cadillac-like” grille.

1962 Cadillac Convertble fin

Cadillac’s trademark tailfins were still around in ‘62, though they had vanished from other GM makes by 1961. For ‘62 the fins lost some height but were still a key part of the design. The bottom “skeg” fin would be eliminated for ‘63. 1962 was a good year for Cadillac that saw 16,800 of these convertibles produced — more than in ‘61 or ‘63.

1962 Cadillac Convertible Int
The interior looks very original, with the upholstery showing some creasing but few signs of wear otherwise. The carpeting seems typical for the mileage. The car sports a nice selection of factory options including 6-way power seat, automatic headlight dimmer and signal-seeking radio. All original manuals are included.

1962 Cadillac Convertible engine

The engine compartment looks as original as the rest of the car. The 390-cubic-inch V8 was rated at 325 horsepower. The only repair items in the past 10 years noted by the seller are a new battery, new seals in the transmission, and a new water pump. New for ‘62 was a dual-circuit brake system, something that would be mandated on all cars years later. Overall, this looks like a very clean example of a ‘60s luxury convertible.

This 1965 VW 21 window Samba bus is claimed to be in original condition aside from a new interior and headliner.  Claimed to drive well, with current registration and clear title.  Find it here on Craigslist in Ahwatukee, Arizona for $69,500. Special thanks to BaT reader JD for this submission.

Original Paint: 1965 VW 21-Window Bus

The only pictures provided by the seller show the faded and claimed original paint, but unfortunately the redone interior is not pictured.  Except for a few hubcaps, the trim and glass appear to be relatively complete.  Surface rust is visible in several areas, and while a few other areas of the lower body are surely questionable, no other information or pictures are provided by the seller.

Original Paint: 1965 VW 21-Window Bus

With the rise in value of the 21 and 23 window Buses, restoration or preservation of survivors is becoming more financially viable.  But even with a reassuring number of other vintage VWs in the seller’s driveway, a closer inspection is needed to back up the asking price on this one.

BaT Auction: 20k-Mile 1985 Volkswagen Scirocco 5-Speed

$

0

This 1985 Volkswagen Scirocco is being sold by its original owner with only 20k miles from new as verified by maintenance paperwork. Purchased new by the seller 30 years ago after trading in his ’83 GTI, it is well-optioned and modifications are limited to a period set of Centra wheels, window tint, GTI shift knob, a Clarion cassette deck, and factory VW mud flaps. Always garaged and covered, it’s never been driven in snow and is in 100% functional condition with healthy mechanicals and full records detailing what the seller calls meticulous care.

1985 Volkswagen Scirocco Rear

Ordered with every option except for cruise control and automatic transmission, the car has never been driven in winter and rarely in rain. Always parked in a heated garaged and under a cover, paint and sheet metal remain all original and in good condition, the seller adding that cosmetics are virtually flawless apart from a few small dents as shown in the gallery next to a coin for scale.

1985 Volkswagen Scirocco Interior

Inside, the car is just as nicely preserved with excellent, all original leather upholstery. The broad Scirocco dash shows no cracks and gauges, lights, and switches all operate properly. Power windows and locks and the manual sunroof also work as designed, and factory A/C still blows cold.

Screen shot 2015-07-08 at 5.25.41 PM

All stock apart from an OEM VW golf ball shift knob and period-added Clarion cassette deck, the latter still plays tapes and sounds good. Note the exceptionally clean hatch and seats.

1985 Volkswagen Scirocco Engine

Mechanicals remain completely unmodified, the car’s 1.8 liter, eight valve four was switched to Mobil 1 synthetic oil at 10k miles and remains in excellent health. Said to start, idle and run like new, the seller says the clutch, transmission, brakes, steering, and suspension are all in excellent shape. There can’t be too many Sciroccos out there still with their original owner and this looks like an excellent example.

This 1987 Alfa Romeo Milano has been turned into a Carabinieri Italian police force replica with convincing paint, magnetic roof lights and correct, European type siren. The car itself has some cosmetic and relatively minor sounding mechanical issues, but sounds to be in good driver condition overall with 75k miles from new. Find it here on Alfabb somewhere in Colorado for $6k.

Twin Cam/Manual Swap Candidate: 1969 Ford Cortina Automatic

$

0

This 1969 ford Cortina reminds us of the similarly gold Lotus model that we wish we would have bought when it sold here at RM. An automatic transmission-equipped car, it’s in running and drivable condition but in need of what the seller calls minor restoration work. Sounds like a good opportunity for a manual and twin cam swap. Find it here on Craigslist in Lowell, Massachusetts for $3,500 OBO.

1969 Ford Cortina

The car shows some rust around the right hand rear wheel arch but is claimed to be very solid otherwise. These multipiece six spoke wheels look pretty cool, but once finished we think a nice pair of Minilites or OEM MkII Lotus Cortina items (like those seen on the RM car linked above) would be ideal.

1969 Ford Cortina

Interior photos aren’t great, but from what we can see the cabin does look serviceable. Eventually a nice pair of period-correct bolstered buckets would be nice, along with a Moto-Lita or similar aftermarket steering wheel.

1969 Ford Cortina

The crossflow Kent four is said to have 84k miles from new. We’d dump it in favor of a suitable twin cam, and similar cars have run carb-swapped Toyota 4AGE’s–a good swap considering that motor’s similarity to the Cosworth BDA.

1969 Ford Cortina

Rust is a big hanging question mark, but if actually as solid as claimed it’d make a great starting point for something with three pedals and two to three times the power.

BaT Auction: 1995 BMW M3 Lightweight

$

0

This 1995 BMW M3 Coupe is a genuine Lightweight example of which only around 125 examples were produced. This model was offered for the 1995 model year only and featured many special race-inspired items for weight reduction and performance including A/C and radio delete, lightweight aluminum door skins, M3 GT front spoiler with adjustable splitter, and sport suspension. The seller says this car is unmodified from stock and has not been altered since delivery. It was sold new by BMW of Seattle and has had three owners from new as confirmed by the clean Carfax report viewable below, having remained with its original owner until 2013. It received a major service last year with all new fluids including trans and differential, new OEM brakes, and a full inspection.

1995 BMW M3 Lightweight-2

M3 Lightweights were only produced in Alpine White with BMW M flag decals on the left front and right rear. The seller says there is no evidence that this car has ever been hit, and importantly all panels have the correct VIN sticker with the exception of the passenger door. It is however a correct LTW aluminum skinned OEM door that he says does not appear to have been removed and guesses there is a good chance it is original despite the missing sticker. All the VINs stickers are photographed individually in the gallery below. The passenger door window appears to have been replaced due to a newer OEM glass logo, and the lower splitter has been replaced with a new black OEM unit. The car sits on freshly re-finished 17″x8.5″ stamped LTW wheels wrapped in new Hankook RS-3 V2 rubber.

DSCN1577

LTWs were equipped with lightweight “hurricane” cloth seats instead of leather and deleted sunroof, radio, and A/C. The interior looks very clean with correct carbon fiber dash trim and OEM M3 floor mats. The seller says all carbon bits are original LTW, with only some minor blemishes in the laminate. There is a less than dime size bit of foreign material in the driver seat cushion that is also visible in the gallery. LTWs sported additional weight reduction measures like special carpet, no underhood insulation blanket, and no tool kit.

1995 BMW M3 Lightweight-3

Literature suggests that the “best” engines were pulled from the assembly line to be used in LTWs, and they were also engineered with a unique 3.23 rear axle ratio. Once completed the cars were sent to Prototype Technology Group in Virginia for final preparation including Motorsports flag decals and various a la carte performance accessories that could be purchased and installed by the first owners for even better handling and performance. This car comes with a powder coated factory front crossmember X-brace.

Screen shot 2015-07-08 at 1.05.51 PM

In March 2014 the seller performed a major service and reconditioning to bring the car to original factory spec. The LTW front splitter was re-aligned and front inner wheel well liners corrected. New OEM brake pads and rotors were fitted and the car was aligned with new tires. The mass air flow meter was replaced with a re-manufactured unit per BMW DIS to correct an occasional idle drop after cold start. Engine oil was flushed with Total ELF Quartz Synthetic and an OEM BMW filter fitted. The guibo coupling was inspected for cracks/deformation, front/rear wheel bearings and rear driveshaft/half shaft CV joints all inspected, and the LF sway bar link at the strut mount was repaired.

1995 BMW M3 Lightweight-4

The engine and transmission are original to the car and the head and trans both carry correct numbers. Service history is limited but the seller says the car is a blast to drive with good power, crisp handling, and positive clutch engagement. The sale includes the original window sticker and Carfax report verifying 92k miles.

Screen shot 2015-07-08 at 1.38.08 PM

The car is currently titled and registered in California and has passed emissions testing. Produced in very limited numbers, these are some of the most interesting E36 variants.

This 1959 Borgrward Isabella coupe (chassis 367098BW60) is offered as a rough project with busted glass, rusted-out floors and what’s likely to be a seized engine as well. Parked since 1971, it looks to be largely complete apart from missing windows and some interior trim. Find it here on eBay in Sheridan, Texas with reserve not met and bidding below $1k.

Borgward Isabella Coupe

The seller quotes a total production run of 9,000 coupes, further claiming that only 340 of these were delivered with left hand drive. Being a German car primarily sold in continental Europe, these numbers seem reversed, and if anything we can imagine the minority were RHD examples.

Borgward Isabella Coupe

These cars enjoy a strong following and what we imagine is a decent support network to go with–hopefully replacement trim, glass and running gear parts won’t be too hard to source. Reproduction floor pans would be nice, too.

This 1978 Renault Rodeo (chassis 0505090RENAULTR6) is one of about 60,000 built between 1970 and 1987. Similar to the Citroen Mehari, it features front wheel drive and a composite tub, body panels and a fold-down windshield. This one’s said to be in good condition as well as a lot of fun to drive. Find it here on eBay in suburban Chicago, Illinois with reserve not met.

1978 Renault Rodeo 6

Unlike the ABS plastic bodied Citroen, Rodeos use a fiberglass tub and panels. This one includes both a hardtop and canvas roof with side curtains, and though the former has some pop rivets holding a crack together the rest of the car both looks and sounds to be in very nice condition. 4×4 fender badges are a visual gag–only the front wheels on these Renault 4-based cars are driven by the engine.

1978 Renault Rodeo 6

Said to be free of defects, the minimal interior looks well-kept, and the Alpine steering wheel is equal parts hilarious and wonderful. Note the under-dash umbrella style shifter, wire shopping basket storage bin and fold-down windshield.

1978 Renault Rodeo 6

Earlier Rodeos ran 845cc Renault four cylinders, 1972-1979 models such as this example came with 1108cc units and 1979-1987 featured a 1.3L motor–with 34, 47 and 45 HP respectively, these 1.1L cars are the most powerful.

1978 Renault Rodeo 6

Said to look good and run very well, it’s an interesting little buggy that could prove to be a lot of fun as summertime beach or campground transport.

BaT Auction: 1952 Chrysler Saratoga Hemi V8

$
0
0

This 1952 Chrysler Saratoga 4-door sedan is described as a 27k-mile example that is original except for a driver-quality repaint done by a previous owner. The car reportedly was sold new in Ohio and used only during the summer months by the original owner, who kept it at his lake house. Though the mileage is undocumented, the seller believes the low-mile figure is correct given the factory markings on the firewall and the original condition of the engine, undercarriage, and typical wear areas. He adds that the car has a very solid chassis and sheet metal and that the factory Hemi V8 runs well. Many people forget that Saratogas enjoyed real success in competition in the early 50s, winning their class at the Mille Miglia and posting strong results at La Carrera Panamericana.

1952 Chrysler Saratoga Rear

The car is finished in Tuskon Ivory over Superior Blue, which has held up well apart from some pictured minor chips. The Coker radial whitewalls have less than 500 miles on them. A backup light integrated into the taillight bezel was one of the few exterior changes for ’52. The Hemi-powered Saratoga was built on the same frame as the 6-cylinder Windsor, giving it a better power-to-weight ratio than the larger, heavier New Yorker.

1952 Chrysler Saratoga Interior
The seller describes the interior as “extraordinarily clean, crisp, and original” with factory cloth seats protected by plastic seat covers for many years. The dashboard and its padding look to be in great shape and the un-restored chrome is in great condition. All gauges and lights are said to work, but the radio is in-op and the clock works intermittently.

1952 Chrysler Saratoga Engine2
The 331-cubic-inch “Firepower” Hemi V8 makes good power and was rated at 180 horsepower, when new, just 10 less than a ’52 Cadillac. The transmission is Chrysler’s hydraulically-operated semi-automatic (Fluid-Matic Drive), which shifts well but has a small oil leak. The seller has provided photos of the underbody and any areas of surface rust, saying that he cannot find any rot or serious corrosion anywhere on the car.

1952 Chrysler Saratoga Chassis

The car has been fully serviced and all fluids have been changed. Apart from the idle and transmission leak, the only other need noted by the seller is that one of the locking mechanism on the passenger’s door handle needs to be tightened as the handle can be pulled out of the door. The seller, who has owned the car for 3 years and enjoyed it as a fair weather driver, says it rides “like a floating couch” and is quick for this type of car thanks to the V8.

Never This Nice: Restored 1971 Honda N600

$

This 1971 Honda N600 (chassis AN6001026116) has been restored to a very good standard with what the seller says was an emphasis on strong mechanicals and full functionality. It’s remarkable to find one in such nice condition, as they rarely come up for sale in anything but tired or cheaply refurbished condition. Find it here on eBay in Golden, Colorado with reserve not met.

Honda N600

Paint and trim look good to us, but the seller notes that the doors don’t sit quite flush due to fresh and plump weatherstripping. They also point out a couple of door scuffs and that “there wasn’t a ridiculous amount of time spent leveling for a true mirror finish.” Note the powder-coated wheels and OEM hubcaps.

Inside, the car wears new carpets and rebuilt, restuffed and reupholstered seats. All gauges and switches were fully disassembled, cleaned, lubed and restored and the ad says that everything including the OEM radio works, however the latter is currently disconnected because of poor sound quality. Door cards are custom-made but look good, though we’d try to source an original steering wheel to replace the Grant item currently fitted.

The little 600cc air-cooled twin benefits from a new timing chain, rings, seals, a rebuilt carb, rebuilt ignition and more detailed in the listing. Many parts have been zinc or powder coated, including a clear designed to preserve otherwise bare aluminum’s appearance. Brakes have received attention as well.

Here’s the little twin looking very tidy prior to re-installation. Most other photos are said to show the car as-is with 1,100 miles added since restoration’s completion.

Said to run very well with go-cart handling, the seller also claims that it will eventually hit 65 on the freeway, further speculating that below 5,000 feet it may perform better.

This 1961 Thiokol Trackmaster 4T-10 (chassis AX618) has been restored and modified with what the seller says are improved steering and braking systems adapted from an unspecified Bombardier snow tracker. Though paint is a bit tired, the ad claims that it’s in excellent mechanical order with a strong Ford straight six and C4 automatic. Find it here on eBay in Lynnwood, Washington with reserve not met. Special thanks to BaT reader Kyle K. for this submission.

Check out the custom snowboard racks on the driver’s side. We’ve never driven either, but have to agree with the seller that newer snowcats don’t have nearly as much personality as these charmingly crude and military-like 60’s machines.

Controls work like those on a skid steer–each lever controlling the corresponding side’s tracks. The 10 in this model’s name denotes passenger capacity, and in addition to the two front seats there are two inward-facing four person benches on either side right over the tracks.

Power comes from a 300ci Ford straight six and a rebuilt C4 automatic. This shot shows the transfer case and what looks like an oil cooler. Ground clearance is impressive.

The seller says it’s surprisingly fast and we wish we had some mountain property to play with it on.

BaT Auction: Deutsche Tourenwagen 1991 Ford Sierra Cosworth Group N

This 1991 Ford Sierra Cosworth 4×4 is a works-built race car campaigned by Walter Wolf Racing from new in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Trophae (DTT). Driver Michael Funke claimed five podiums in seven starts in 1995 including one win thanks to an Eggenberger 350hp drivetrain upgrade in 1994. With improved reliability and increased power the car outpaced Wolf Escorts and factory BMW M3’s on many occasions. The seller has owned the car for 15 years, having imported it from Europe in 2000. It is sorted and ready for track use according to the seller, who describes it as fast, more forgiving than the later Escorts, and fun to drive. A nice spares package, period documentation including original logbook and FISA paper, and photos including its original Wagenpass are also included.
1991 Ford Sierra Cosworth Rear
The car had been continuously campaigned from new and was still being driven in local events when brought over from Lithuania 15 years ago. More recently it’s been raced in numerous HSR West and SCCA vintage events as well as the occasional Laguna Seca track day where it is said to have performed very well. Importantly, the seller adds that the car easily passes restricted noise level tests (88db) without impeding on power output.
1991 Ford Sierra Cosworth On Track
The seller believes body panels are original. Most were raced hard in period and likely needed repairs during the course of the race season, but this car has not been messed with from its initial works setup. Here it is on track sometime in the ’90s, and as this photo shows the car still wears its period purple, yellow, and white Kenwood livery.
1991 Ford Sierra Cosworth On Interior
Like many works cars, the interior is a mix of standard Ford production parts (dash, door panels front and rear) with many special competition items like gauges, switchgear, seats, recently replaced harnesses, and a fully welded-in roll cage.

Note also the plumbed-in fire suppression system and large fuel cell with quick filler located in the trunk. Records show the car was always competitive and even posted a 2.0L Nurburgring endurance lap record of 09:12 during the 4-hour event there in 1996.
1991 Ford Sierra Cosworth Engine
Powered by a race spec, Eggenberger-built 2.3 liter Cosworth YB turbo four cylinder, output is quoted as 352 HP @ 5,700 RPM with 384 lb ft @ 4,000 revs. Rebuilt in 2001, the 5-speed transmission has approximately 12 hours use since and is said to remain in excellent working condition, as is the clutch. Brakes, steering, suspension and engine are all said to be in good working order.

1991 Ford Sierra Cosworth Passport
Spares include an extra Bosch Motronic control unit, a spare ABS computer, another complete gearbox needing rebuild, three sets of used brake rotors and pads (for reference), a rear sway bar, and nine extra wheels including five Ford OEM and four ATS items, all of which measure 15″ x 7″. Additionally, a factory repair manual and extensive period race documentation such as a logbook and FISA papers are included.

Mitsubishi Turbodiesel Swapped: 1969 Toyota Crown Wagon Project

This 1969 Toyota Crown wagon has had a Mitsubishi turbodiesel four cylinder installed but hasn’t run in years. These Crowns are very scarce in any condition or configuration, but wagons are particularly rare and we like this one’s unusual swap. Find it here on Craigslist in Bentwood, California for $3k. Special thanks to BaT reader Kyle K. for this submission.

1969 Toyota crown wagon MS53

The windshield is in rough condition but from what we can make out remaining glass appears to be in good shape, including that on the optional power-retracting tailgate. Trim appears to be largely complete as well, though bodywork shows plenty of dings and some rust as well–check out the right side rocker just forward of the rear wheel.

1969 Toyota crown wagon MS53

With a Ford nine inch rear end and good parts availability for the Mistu motor, getting this one running again might be easier than if it were running a standard Toyota drivetrain. Alternately, we think it’d be very cool restored to a completely stock appearance with an early 4.0 liter Lexus V8 under the hood.

This Nissan 300zx Twin Turbo (VIN JN1CZ24A0LX004503) is easily one of the cleanest we have seen in some time, having traveled just 8,280 miles since new. While other Japanese super coupes of the 90’s often steal the spotlight, we think that the 300ZX is just as worthy of attention. Find this one here on eBay in Millstone Township, New Jersey with reserve not met. Special thanks to BaT reader Steve N. for this submission!

OEM alloys are not particularly flashy, but they do provide a nice contrast in color, and suit the survivor character perfectly. Black looks good on just about any car, but works particularly well on the Z32’s understated curves.

1990 Nissan 300zx Twin Turbo

300ZX’s of this era offer a very nice, cockpit-like interior experience. Black leather is particularly impressive and the clearest indication we can see of the car’s claimed low mileage. A big plus of these earlier cars is a more elegant, pre-airbag steering wheel.

The VG30DETT three liter V6 looks impressively clean. These cars were capable of sub-six second 0-60 times straight from the factory, and sound really nice approaching their 7k RPM redlines. Many have been boosted up to 500 or more horsepower, but having driven a handful of stock and tuned cars we’ve always been more impressed by the innate power/chassis balance of stock or nearly-stock cars such as this example.

Though we think it’s worthy of preservation, it’s just as important that it be driven to maintain mechanical health. Ideally this one will have some miles added with careful attention to keeping the cosmetics in their current, nearly factory-fresh condition.
