BaT Auction: 33k-Mile 1990 Mercedes-Benz 300SL

$

0

This 1990 Mercedes Benz 300SL was purchased by its current owner off of lease in 1992 with 7k miles. It is a very original example with a Carfax-verified 33k miles showing on the odometer. Used as a fair weather weekend driver, it has always been garaged and presents very nicely as one would expect from a low mileage car. Everything on the car works including cold A/C and all power accessories. The car has never been hit and received a new water pump and battery two years ago. The sale includes the matching factory hardtop, lift winch, jack, spare tire, tools, and manuals, and the seller says the car can be driven home with confidence.

1990 Mercedes-Benz 300SL

The two-tone red scheme has aged well and the seller says finish is original and still shines very well with no sun fade. A small stone chip and three minor clear coat scratches are present, however the chip will be covered with included OEM touch-up paint and clear will be polished out prior to sale. All sheet metal is original, and though the low front spoiler shows some scratches, the fiberglass is not cracked. A receipt for new tires in 1998 shows the car had 16k miles at the time.

19055416748_59d0cee50f_o

The Carfax report above documents mileage and shows that the car has lived in New York from new. All four factory alloy wheels remain in good, rash-free condition and the original convertible top has no rips or tears. A small fray can be seen just aft of the right side door, however it doesn’t affect the top’s weather or soundproofing, both of which are said to remain excellent. Though not yellowed or cracked, the plastic rear windows do show very light clouding.

1989 Mercedes Benz 300SL Interior

The interior is original and unmodified from stock. It is said to show largely as new, with wear limited to light creasing on the leather seats. The dash is clean and gauges, lights, switches, and accessories including the OEM radio and cold blowing A/C all work well. The seller adds that the fully lined power soft top folds quickly in either direction.

1989 Mercedes Benz 300SL Engine

The car has been properly maintained and serviced on schedule according to the seller, and though limited records were kept by its 23-year owner, the car received a new water pump in 2013 and has needed only routine maintenance and fluid changes. It’s notable that as an early R129 chassis car this example does not have the often troublesome wiring harness fitted to later examples.

1989 Mercedes Benz 300SL Underneath

The seller adds that the 6-cylinder engine runs quietly and makes good power, adding that the optional 5-speed automatic works well with smooth shifts. The underbody looks clean and several additional lift shots can be seen in the gallery below. The car is on consignment at a dealer who is handling the sale.

Turnkey Vintage Racer: 1969 Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV

$

This 1969 Alfa Romeo GTV 1750 is described as a turn-key race car that has been campaigned in SVRA Group 8/BS and should also be eligible for other vintage race series. Said to be a California sourced car, cosmetics look very good and the seller provides a detailed list of the build configuration. Find it here on Alfabb in Rochester, New York for $33k.

IMG_2248

The interior retains the stock dash and gauges, and includes an eight point roll cage with double door bars. A three nozzle fire system is with remote actuation is provided, and both driver and passenger race seats are installed along with six point harnesses. Total weight is said to be about 2,100 pounds.

IMG_4034

The 1750 cc engine was professionally built by the Alfa race shop Autostrada in Washington State, and we’d love to hear it running at WOT on the track with the dual Webers and velocity stacks. Other engine specifications include Cosworth 12.7:1  compression pistons, Carrillo rods and Megacycle cams. Also installed is a Schwitters ultra-close ratio 5-speed transmission that was new in 2009, serviced in 2011 and has only seen limited use since.

IMG_1527

As a ready-to-run vintage racer, this looks like a very attractive build. Although no spares are mentioned, chances are good that the seller has some to offer if a complete race-day package is desired. If not sold prior, the seller mentions that the car will be at the SVRA Vintage Grand Prix in Watkins Glen, NY during the week of July 23rd.

Battle Scarred: 1954 Triumph TR2 Race Project

$

This 1954 Triumph TR2 is a very cool-looking right hand drive car that’s said to have been in storage for a long time. Though not currently running, the car looks to be complete and would seem to have previous race history despite no hard evidence of competition use. Sale includes a title, and the seller says that the frame and suspension are clean. Find it here on Craigslist in Quakertown, Pennsylvania for $15,500.

1954 Triumph TR-2 for sale

The sheet metal/vinyl half tonneau and Brooklands screen give the car a very streamlined, knee-high kind of look that works well with stripes and number rounds. Hopefully the new owner leaves paint as-is–it’s got a killer patina and what seems like a lot of history as well.

1954 Triumph TR-2 for sale

The interior has a similarly complete but hard-worn look about it. Again, we think it’s perfect and would leave it alone if it was ours.

1954 Triumph TR-2 for sale

Stock dual SU’s have been replaced by larger Webers, while an aftermarket finned cover sits on top of the valvetrain. There’s no word on other modifications or even if the motor still turns freely, but the big carbs would definitely have freed up some more power and response for racing duty.

1954 Triumph TR-2 for sale

Whether history can be recovered or if it remains lost to time, the car’s straight out of a black-and-white photo vibe and battle scars are too cool to erase with over-restoration. We’d clean it up a bit, sort the engine, driveline, suspension, brakes and drive the wheels off of it whenever possible.

BaT Auction: BaT’s 1972 Porsche 911T at No Reserve

$

This 1972 Porsche 911T coupe is a numbers matching car that has an all stock drivetrain and interior. We listed the car two months ago, and during the auction discovered the previously unknown ownership chain but also that we had been sold the car with a title from three owners ago. The previous owner with the valid title contacted us and we thought the potential ownership issue substantial enough to make the car the first BaT Auction car ever withdrawn. Since then, that owner has forwarded it to us, and the car is now free and clear. More details on the ownership chain and questions raised from the previous listing are also added below. As stated in the previous listing, the car was color changed many years ago to red, but the factory color was the striking, non-metallic Emerald Green, per the included Certificate of Authenticity. A cosmetic restoration back to stock would make the car a high dollar collectible, but we bought it as a driver and actually like the stripes and hood mounted Cibie lights with slightly lowered stance. It is a turn-key driver without rust to which we have added ~3070 miles in the last year, 1100 of which have come since the last listing as we successfully campaigned the car on the Motherlode 400 rally.

1972 Porsche 911T Red For Sale Rear

The interior features stock seats with vinyl upholstery in good condition. The driver side upper bolster bead is torn as shown in the photos. The steering wheel is stock and all the gauges and lights function properly. The dash top has a few cracks as shown in the photo. The original dash speaker cover was in poor shape so we installed a brand new reproduction that looks great. The period radio does work and drives round speakers in the door panels. Door pockets are intact and function fine but sag slightly from their original position.

17393616171_ab548bc81e_b

We bought this car from CPR in SoCal (link) because of the dry body, the more attainable driver grade condition, and the rally style look. The car came with almost no documentation and no claim of numbers matching, so we attained the COA ourselves and were thrilled to see the correct engine remaining. The car had the ugly chrome USA-spec sugar scoop headlights, which we promptly swapped out for new Euro units. We also added a new genuine Porsche driver door mirror since the original was scratched. Some pals across the street from BaT shot the car for us in their slick photo studio. While great for lighting, studio shots tend to make cars look better than they are. Look at the large versions and you will see the paint imperfections and plenty of chips across the front of the car, as well as some other imperfections.

1972 Porsche 911T Red For Sale Cibie Hood Lights

The car came to us with the factory double chrome tube bars between the rear guards, which we also removed for a cleaner look. It is included with the car and we’ll add a picture to the gallery. Wheels are 15″ Fuchs and tires are nearly new Generals in 195/60R15 up front and 205/60R15 in the rear. Weltmeister sway bars are installed front and rear, and the S-style front lower spoiler is aftermarket fiberglass. The auxiliary front lights are controlled by separate switches on the dash, and both sets function well. The front trunk area is very dry and you have to look hard to find Emerald Green, so the color change was fairly thorough and not just an exterior job.

1972 Porsche 911T Coupe Red and Green Front Trunk Pan No Rust

The front suspension pan has been replaced on the car, and was the subject of some debate in the last auction. We have many shots of the underbody here in the Flickr gallery. The replacement was done at least as long ago as the red color change, which is estimated to be 20+ years old.

We covered the Motherlode 400 event here on BaT last month, on which we ran 800+ miles in three days through the California foothills in this car. The car ran quite well though heat, elevation, dirt sections, and many, many curves. BaT friend and pro photographer Cliff B. was along in his GTV and sent us some of these great shots of our car at the event. See these links for the coverage and more pics:

Part 1: Live Front the Motherlode 400

Part 2: An Amazing Final Day of the Motherlode

MotherLode_Cliff_Brunk-0024

Here is an impromptu dash video of part of the run on the second day.

If you look closely at the engine bay and the door hinges you can see some of the factory green, but otherwise it is only noticeable underneath the car where we have chosen not to refinish it. If we decided to keep the car and leave it red, we’d simply touch up the front wheel wells and floor pans at the rocker edges with Würth spray undercoat. But given that we don’t know what the next owner will want, and that buying a Porsche with fresh undercoating is scary, we wanted to present it like it is shown here. It also shows that the lower fenders, rockers, and floors are very dry.

Porsche 911T Underbody Floors Emerald Green No Rust

The factory 2.4L engine runs very well following tuning by Hi-Tec Automotive in San Rafael, California. When we got the car it had an aftermarket Perma-tune ignition box that provided an intermittent stalling problem at warm idle. The guys at Hi-Tec personally refurbish the factory Bosch units and we had them install one along with new points ($927). The car hasn’t missed a beat since and makes very smooth power.

1972 Porsche 911T Red FOr Sale Engine

They also replaced all the aged fuel lines on the engine and since we had no maintenance history we had them do a full service including oil and filter, new spark plugs, checking of head torque, and checking of compression (185, 180, 175, 180, 180, 175). They machined the valve covers to prevent future leaks and installed new gaskets.

The previous listing resulted in the two prior owners contacting us with more info on the car. That was awesome! It turns out they are both great fans of the car and both had lots of information to share. The engine was rebuilt during one of their ownerships, and the more recent one was the one who held the valid title. We hope he will chime in here and comment here. He was very gracious and after just one cordial phone call forwarded us the valid and current title to the car. That was a relief as there could have been a dispute. As a thank you gift we removed the hood lights on the car, which were a particular favorite of his, and sent them to him in Virginia. We have since replaced the lights with different new reproductions, and are now having them painted to match the car. They will be matching and functioning for the new owner. The engine lid latch has also been adjusted and now works properly.

1972 Porsche 911T Red For Sale Engine Valve Cover

This is a clean and straight car with some paint finish flaws that allow it to be driven on events without worry. The only reliability problem for us was the ignition box, and the car has never missed a beat since replacing it. Local inspections are welcome. Unlike some Porsches we have played with and owned, this is one you can hand the keys off to a friend who has never driven an old car and they can take a date out to dinner and have no problems other than too much attention. The next owner can speculate on value or restore it or do whatever they want… we’d just continue to add miles.

Make sure to check out the full gallery here on Flickr.

This car is being sold by Bring a Trailer Inc., a licensed, bonded, and insured California dealer. Sales tax and registration fees are due upon transfer for California buyers. We think that charging buyers the allowable $80 documentation fee is lame, so we won’t be doing that.

Nicely Refurbished: Mil-Spec 1952 Dodge M37

$
0
0

This 1952 Dodge M37 wears new regulation olive drab paint, and the seller states that it also has a rebuilt carburetor, muffler, windshield, non-directional (ND) tires, rubber trim, and a canvas top. Showing its serial number on the hood, we can also see a jerry can and a collapsible water bucket behind the front passenger fender. Though the seller doesn’t state it, it seems reasonable to assume that a pioneer kit (axe and shovel) may also be included. Find it here on DodgePowerWagon.com in Springfield, Illinois for $15k.

1952 Dodge M37

Following Dodge’s success with the WC series in WW2, and the civilian Power Wagon, which it introduced in 1945, Uncle Sam came calling again. Starting in 1950, prototypes of Dodge’s new 3/4 ton, four wheel drive truck, the M37, began to roll off the assembly line, with production models coming online in 1951. Serving primarily in Korea, the M37 used much of the same drive-train items (engine, transmission and transfer case) as its predecessor the WC, while sharing some sheet-metal with its sibling, the civilian Power Wagon. The M37 continued to serve until replaced in the later 1960’s by the M715 and then in the 1970s by the Dodge M880.

1952 Dodge M37

Seat belts on olive drab seats indicate a modern concession to safety. Everywhere is evidence that no expense was spared in the restoration of this vehicle. Powered by the same flathead 6 cylinder used to power the WC trucks, you will have four forward gears and a two-speed transfer case to help get you up to speed and through any off road situation you may encounter (although truthfully this truck is almost too nice to take any further off road than your yard).

1952 Dodge M37

Additionally, the seller states that all the lights and gauges work. The pictures show both the quality of the restoration and also the utilitarian nature of the M37. The entire instrument cluster is easily removable for service, and the truck starts with an ignition switch, not a key, all of which serves as a reminder of this truck’s intended job. You likely could not replicate this work for anywhere near the price that this truck is being offered at. Nothing more is required than to drive and enjoy tinkering with your M37.

1951 Austin A40 Sports Project

This 1951 Austin A40 Sports is one of a few more than 4,000 built over a three year period ending in 1953. Based on regular production A40 mechanicals with an Aluminum body, the cars were co-designed and manufactured by Jensen. This one’s floors are rusted out but it seems to be mostly intact and its motor still turns freely. Find it here on Craigslist in Saratoga, California for $5k. Special thanks to BaT reader Kyle K. for this submission.

69k Miles: 1979 Subaru 1600 DL 4WD Wagon

$

0

This 1979 Subaru 1600 DL is a 4WD example that’s said to have just under 69k miles from new, the last 6,000 of which are said to have been nearly trouble-free. Further claimed to be in good mechanical order with minimal bubbling and surface rust, the car represents this nearly extinct model very well. Find it here on Craigslist in Boonton, New Jersey for $5,400 OBO or possible trades. Special thanks to BaT reader Michael C. for this submission.

1979 Subaru 1600 DL 4WD Wagon

Check out the personalized license plate–it’s width helps underscore how narrow and small these cars are. There’s no word on originality, but we’re pretty sure this was a common OEM color. It’s also interesting to note that challenging styling isn’t a relatively new phenomenon at Fuji Heavy Industries.

1979 Subaru 1600 DL 4WD Wagon

The interior is said to be in very good condition apart from a slightly torn driver’s seat, though we also see a few cracks on the dash as shown from this perspective. The transmission tunnel houses two gearsticks and what looks like the original two-dial AM/FM radio is retained as well.

1979 Subaru 1600 DL 4WD Wagon

The 1.6 liter EA-71 is said to run extremely well and should be good for about 67 HP in US emissions equipped spec. Despite being an oversquare design, they’re not particularly revvy engines, though these old Subaru’s rather agricultural feel is a big part of the appeal–especially if you’ve got access to some decent trails.

1979 Subaru 1600 DL 4WD Wagon

Recent work included fitment of new front brakes, a replacement exhaust system, new tie rods, axles and wheel bearings. The seller says they’re open to “very interesting trades”, better bring something weird.

BRG MkI: Restored 1966 MGB

$
0
0

This 1966 MGB is said to have 61k miles from new, only 100 or so of which have been added since completion of restoration. Described as very straight and free of rust, the car looks very good in photos and is also said to run and drive great with many new parts and fully functional electrics. Find it here on Craigslist in Glendora, New Jersey for $14,500.

1966 MGB Roadster, MG

BRG is overdone but looks very nice here in combination with correct, non-chromed knockoff wire wheels. No top-up photos are shown, but the boot cover appears to be in good shape and is said to be original. Also included in its factory bags, the full tonneau is original as well and occupies space in the trunk along with OEM spare, jack and wheel hammer.

1966 MGB Roadster, MG

This photo of the rear decklid seems to support the seller’s claims of exceptional straightness. Paint and interior fittings appear to be very nice as well.

1966 MGB Roadster, MG

New parts include the brake master cylinder, cylinders, calipers, shoes and pads, fuel and water pumps, clutch cylinders and more detailed in the ad. Said to retain its original 1800 and 4-speed, we think it’s a very attractive MkI and would happily drive it as-is.

Runs and Drives: Rolled 1958 Panhard Dyna Z

$
0
0

This 1958 Panhard Dyna Z is described as a running, driving barn find. Clearly put into storage after a big wreck, it’d be interesting to know more about its history though we suspect it’s probably been lost to time. Mechanicals and interior trim look surprisingly good, and at this price we wonder what some creative chopping or drivetrain swapping might achieve. Find it here on Hemmings in Murray, Utah for $1,800 negotiable.

1958 Panhard Dyna Z Front

For taking a roll, the car looks surprisingly good for a modestly sized European car from the 50’s, especially one engineered with lightness of construction as a priority. We suppose it wouldn’t be impossible to straighten, provided budget and time were limitless commodities.

1958 Panhard Dyna Z Rear

Though not shown here the rear glass remains intact, and judging by the condition of its frame we’d guess its made it through the crash and isn’t a replacement.

1958 Panhard Dyna Z Interior

The interior looks surprisingly good, ignoring the daylight showing through several places on the floorboards. Check out the cool steering column/instrument binnacle/switch control center and white Bakelite wheel.

1958 Panhard Dyna Z Engine

These car’s little 851cc air-cooled twins are full of interesting features like extensive use of roller bearings, hollow pushrods, torsion sprung valvetrain and more. Said to run, drive and brake, mechanicals might make sense in a small, fiberglass bodied special with inspiration taken from the Junior.

0

This 1963 Lotus 23B (chassis 23S126) has recently been restored and is sold with race records dating back to the early 1990’s. Said to run and handle exceptionally well, the car wears a plaque memorializing participation in the 1995 Monterey Historics and runs a freshened, 200 HP 1600 twin cam. Find it here on eBay in Lancaster, Pennsylvania with reserve not met.

Recently stripped and reinforced, the knee-high fiberglass body looks cool in Gulf colors, and OEM Lotus “wobbly” wheels are hard to improve on–two sets are included.

The interior features modern replacement gauges and what’s likely old, pre-restoration red leather on the seats, dash and steering wheel. Note the 1995 Monterey Historics plaque–Lotus was that year’s featured marque.

1963 Lotus 23B Interior

The 1600 twin cam is said to make 200 HP after a recent refresh. Power goes through a Hewland 5-speed, and the seller says only two hours of driving time has been racked up at vintage racing school at Summit in Ohio.

Sale also includes “very few miscellaneous spares”, none of which are mentioned specifically. We bet it’s very fast and should be quite competitive once dialed-in, too.

Emerald in the Rough: 1968 Dodge Coronet 440

$
0
0

This 1968 Dodge Coronet 440 (referring to the model and not–sadly–the engine’s displacement) is said to run, drive and stop, but apart from the fact that it’s a 318/3-speed automatic car with an 8 3/4″ rear end the seller remains pretty tight-lipped. Rust is mentioned briefly, but sounds to be limited to the quarter panels and rockers. Find it here on Craigslist in Mahopac, New York for $6,500.

1968 Dodge Coronet

While green with a black vinyl top is perhaps not everyone’s cup of tea, it does a good job of visually shrinking the car, while the white belt-line stripes accentuate the shape of its rear fenders. Small, first generation side marker lights do little to detract from the the car’s classic design cues.

1968 Dodge Coronet

The rear view show off segmented taillights and optional bumper over-riders. Though pictures are a bit blurry, the trim, trunk lid and bumper all seem to line up well, possibly indicating a largely straight car.

1968 Dodge Coronet

The interior is basic black vinyl and while the upholstery looks good from here, a thorough cleaning is almost certainly needed. From this angle we can see that everything on the dash is present and accounted for, including the original radio. A/C is also present, though there is nothing mentioned about whether it is operational.

1968 Dodge Coronet

While some rust is present, for those in the Northeast this car may be a good starting point for someone to build into an enjoyable cruiser.

Wheel Swap Immediately: 1963 1/2 Ford Falcon Sprint

$

0

This 1963 1/2 ford falcon sprint is a nicely restored example very similar in color and trim to the car that Jay Leno bought as a BaT Exclusive. We’d take a lug wrench and jack with us to the transaction and have either the stock wheels or some 15″ alloys on the car as soon as we were out of the seller’s sight. This is a great model and white/red is one of the best color schemes. Find it here on Craigslist in Bakersfield, California for $21,500.

Wheel Swap Immediately: 1963 1/2 Ford Falcon Sprint

The car is otherwise very tasteful, with a nice OEM look interior, good paint and nice trim. Described as a rust-free California donor, it was originally Rangoon Red but the seller elected to respray it in this model and year correct Corinthian White instead.

Wheel Swap Immediately: 1963 1/2 Ford Falcon Sprint

The 260 looks just as tidy as the rest of the car and wears both the correct factory style air cleaner and Sprint rocker covers.

Original Taxi Equipment: 1960 Fiat 600 Multipla

$

0

This 1960 Fiat Multipla is offered with relatively little hard info but plenty of dealer hype about rising values. Still, it’s a great looking example and the claimed-original Taxi light and meter are super-cool. Clearly a recent restoration, we’d fit some period Abarth hop-ups but leave the outward appearance completely alone. Find it here on eBay in Saint Charles, Missouri with reserve not met.

Fiat 600 Multipla Taxi

The old taxi light is very Italian looking and also very cool. Is the triangle a some kind of hire car insignia?

1960 Fiat Multipla Roof Detail

The interior looks very good with OEM rubber floor mats, nice mottled brown vinyl upholstery and clear gauges. The taxi meter seen between the spare and steering column is a clear highlight, and is shown in greater detail within the ad. We hope it still works.

1960 Fiat Multipla Roof Interior

The little 633cc four looks completely stock including an OEM air filter housing. We like to imagine it with a hotter carb setup and Abarth manifolds.

1960 Fiat Multipla Engine

Even all stock it’d make a fun, albeit low-speed cruiser and car show conversation piece. Keep the meter running.

Original Paint: AACA Honored 1963 Buick Skylark

$
0
0

This 1963 Skylark is from the last year for Buick’s compact unitbody production and the seller says that it wears all original black paint. Sharing design cues with its larger LeSabre and Electra, this Y-Body rides on a 112″ wheelbase making it substantially smaller than the company’s larger offerings. This particular car has been awarded an American Automobile Club of America Historic Preservation of Original Features (AACA HPOF) designation according to the current owner, who purchased it from the original owner. In order to meet this designation a car must be “essentially as delivered,” as defined by the AACA. Find it here on Hemmings in Cumming, Georgia for $12,500 negotiable.

Skylark

In 1959 Chevrolet began production on the 1960 Corvair. That car of course was rear-engined and designed to compete with the VW Beetle. Initially the Corvair was very successful and the other GM divisions (with the exception of Cadillac) began to clamor for their own compact, but in a more conventional style. In 1961, Pontiac got the Tempest, Oldsmobile the F85 and Buick got the Special. By 1963 each division had an upscale model: Pontiac had the LeMans, Oldsmobile had the Cutlass, and Buick had the Skylark.

Skylark Interior

Caramel colored vinyl brightens up the interior, and the bucket seats shown here came standard with the Skylark. The seller states that the car also comes with power windows, power locks, power seats, power steering, power brakes and A/C which has been converted to use modern day refrigerant.

Skylark Engine-1

Appearing to be all original under the hood with the exception of a new battery,  the car comes with an all aluminum, 200 horse, 215ci V-8. Shifting gears is handled by a two-speed “Dual Path Turbine Drive” automatic transmission. Though both GM two-speeds, this transmission shares no parts in common with Chevrolet’s Power-Glide as the Dual-Path was developed solely in-house by Buick. Power is then passed rearward to a posi-traction rear end.

Skylark Trunk-1

The original spare still resides in the trunk on top of the spotless trunk mat. From the front of the car to the rear, this Skylark appears very tidy. The seller is also including  several GM service manuals, assembly books and a good collection of Buick memorabilia from 1963. Popular when new but hard to find now, this Skylark may be one of the best of the breed.

Matching Numbers: Nice 1959 Porsche 356A Coupe

This 1959 Porsche 356A is described as a well-maintained, lightly used and matching numbers example with two previous owners. Said to have been purchased by the second owner as a 50th birthday present to himself, it remained in his care for 47 years until his passing and is further said to have never been apart. Find it here on Hemmings in La Habra, California for $79,900.

1959 Porsche 356A Front

The interior remains original inside with nicely worn-in but not worn-looking brown vinyl and corduroy upholstery. Sale includes the original, stamped maintenance book, a service manual, owner’s manual, tool kit and jack.

1959 Porsche 356A Books

Said to run and drive well, the engine bay wears an appropriate amount of patina that suits the car’s cared-for driver vibe.

1959 Porsche 356A Engine

Originally Meissen Blue, we’d happily drive it in green until paint was a necessity and then return it to the factory color. Apart from the retrofitted quad exit exhaust everything else is just about perfect as-is.

Cinquecento Coupe: 1961 Moretti 850

$

This 1961 Moretti 500 is a first production year model and one of about 25,000 built, leading us to question the seller’s speculation that only two remain in existence. Described as a driver quality restoration, the car looks pretty good in photos but could use some detail changes to bring out its best. Find it here on eBay in Udine, Italy for $24,900 USD OBO.

Fiat Moretti 850

Wheels for example are a bit out of place, and we think an OEM or similar set of steelies with hub caps would be a better solution.

Fiat Nuova 500-based architecture and running gear means a 500cc, 22 HP vertical twin. Like the rest of the car, the engine bay looks reasonably tidy and perfectly suitable for a driver.

It’s an attractive little car in need of some relatively minor changes, and though we’re pretty sure there’s more than two left you wouldn’t need to worry about seeing another at Cars & Coffee.

This 1976 Porsche 911 Turbo (chassis 9306800408) was Steve McQueen’s last special order Porsche before his death four years later. Fitted with a taillight killswitch for evading cops on Mulholland Drive and a few other personal touches, McQueen’s son Chad fondly reminisces about taking it for illicit joy rides while dad was away on work. Find it here at Mecum who are offering it as part of their Monterey auction being held between August 13th and 15th, 2015. Special thanks to BaT reader ISF for this submission.

Special order Slate Gray looks gorgeous and the car retains its original paint tag. Delivered with 7″ and 8″ inch wide Fuchs, McQueen added these eights and nines shortly after delivery. Chad elaborates on “borrowing” the car: “I was 15 at the time, and he was out of town for a week. Every day, sometimes twice in the same day, I’d open the garage, turn the key, give the car a stealthy roll down to the cul-de-sac, fire it up and take off.”

Later, he recalls being caught and subsequently discovering what happens when you lift mid-corner in an early 930. Black leather, twin outside mirrors and a sunroof were also specified by McQueen. Everything looks to be in excellent condition inside and out.

An early production, non-intercooled 3.0 liter example, these cars also feature a unique indented wing grille. An early 90’s cosmetic and mechanical refresh is briefly mentioned, along with the fact that all documentation related to this work has been retained.

Part of the proceeds will benefit Boys Republic, the reform school that McQueen frequently credited with saving him from the wrong path. We hope it sells high and gets driven from time-tot-time, too.

This Toyota Blizzard (VIN 2BG50901621002233) is a RHD import truck that sounds to be in good driver condition with a few issues, chiefly a non-op fifth gear. Said to run well with limited, surface-only rust, these little Daihatsu-built trucks have manual locking hubs and straight axles at both ends, making for a very capable platform that’s similar in concept to a mini Land Cruiser. Find this one here on eBay in Bigfork, Montana with no reserve. Special thanks to BaT reader Mike S. for this submission.

Other issues include a cracked windshield and tired suspension. Note also the missing spare carrier and damaged license plate lamp nacelle. 80’s style graphics and lettering are always cool.

The interior looks to be holding up pretty well, and as the seller notes the rear seats fold down for more cargo space. Check out the factory-fit inclinometer and turbo graphic striped seats.

Looks like a cool little rig, and the seller says they know how to fix the gearbox, too. Otherwise limited to 60 MPH, that sounds plenty fast for trail work.

This 1955 Austin A50 Cambridge is a rare left hand drive export model that’s said to wear and older restoration. As claimed, the car appears to be holding up very nicely and being a DeLuxe model it’s equipped with a radio, heater, clock, sunvisors and other things that were once considered luxuries. Find it here at R&R Classic Cars in Val Caron, Ontario, Canada for $14,500 USD. Special thanks to BaT reader Kyle K. for this submission.

1955 Austin A50 Cambridge Front

It’s a dowdy looking little car but not without its charms–check out the high-mounted trafficators between front and rear doors for example. Light gray suits its post-war austerity vibe well, and we especially like the cream colored wheels and simple round taillight treatment.

1955 Austin A50 Cambridge Rear

The interior is quite attractive, its crisp chrome-ringed black and white gauges, banjo wheel, lucite shift knob and other details providing a surprising lift in ambiance. Leather upholstery is done very well and features OEM style stitching.

Motivation comes from a 1.5 liter BMC B-series four good for a quoted 50 HP. Sent rearwards through a column-shifted 4-speed manual, this one’s said to run and drive excellently.

1955 Austin A50 Cambridge Engine

We think it’d look great parked next to an old Triumph in the garage, and as long as freeway work isn’t on the menu it could be fun for occasional light duty errand running too.

This 1963 Triumph TR4 (chassis CT9326L) was recently pulled from a 35 year storage and is sold as a non-running project due to a frozen engine. Complete apart from the convertible frame, the car appears pretty well preserved at first glance, though additional photos show quite a bit of rust underneath and mold inside. Find it here on eBay in Orchard Park, New York with a $7,350 BIN. Special thanks to BaT reader Patrick G. for this submission.

Apart from a dent in the right-front fender, both body and paint seem to be OK, but a chipped spot does show some surface rust beneath. Bumpers and chrome parts are faded and heavily pitted, and wire wheels are also corroded.

Other than the moldy carpet, the interior look to be in decent shape–the dash top remains un-cracked and both dash and gauge faces are clean, while seat upholstery and door cards look well-preserved as well.

With the amount of rust and mold present, prospective buyers would be smart to order a PPI.
